{"id":229,"date":"2014-08-30T00:02:24","date_gmt":"2014-08-30T00:02:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.claibornechurchill.com\/blog\/?p=229"},"modified":"2014-08-30T00:02:24","modified_gmt":"2014-08-30T00:02:24","slug":"qa-winemaker-coby-parker-garcia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.claibornechurchill.com\/blog\/qa-winemaker-coby-parker-garcia\/","title":{"rendered":"Harvest 2014 Q&#038;A with Claiborne &#038; Churchill Winemaker Coby Parker-Garcia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>What number harvest is this for you?<br \/>\n<\/b>\u201cThis will be my 12<sup>th<\/sup> professional harvest, not including the two \u201clearn by doing\u201d harvests at Cal Poly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b>What music do you like to jam to during harvest?<br \/>\n<\/b>It really depends on where we\u2019re at during the season. If I\u2019m out sampling grapes, something mellow. But if I\u2019m doing punch downs or hard cellar work I like to listen to reggae or classic rock. And if I\u2019m driving to go check out vineyards I enjoy listening to sports talk radio.<\/p>\n<p><b>With such a warm dry winter and early bud break, how has it affected this year\u2019s harvest?<br \/>\n<\/b>This is definitely one of the earliest harvests in California history and Edna Valley history. It\u2019s the first time we have ever picked Pinot Noir in August. Grapes are tasting very good at lower sugar levels, yields are average, high quality, no rot, and very good uniformity in the vineyard.<\/p>\n<p>I would say the good thing about having such an early harvest is that you get it done sooner and life on the central coast during fall is some of the best weather. So we should be done harvesting all of our grapes by the end of September, which means that we will get to enjoy a little bit of October.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.claibornechurchill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Winemaker_Coby.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-234 aligncenter\" alt=\"Winemaker_Coby\" src=\"https:\/\/www.claibornechurchill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Winemaker_Coby-220x300.jpg\" width=\"220\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.claibornechurchill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Winemaker_Coby-220x300.jpg 220w, https:\/\/www.claibornechurchill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Winemaker_Coby-752x1024.jpg 752w, https:\/\/www.claibornechurchill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Winemaker_Coby.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 220px) 100vw, 220px\" \/><\/a><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Are there any new wines in the works for the 2014 vintage?<br \/>\n<\/b>We\u2019re going to keep most of our portfolio the same with the addition of another Malbec. We are making a 2014 Malbec from Santa Margarita Ranch.<\/p>\n<p><b>Which wine growing region has had the most influence on you?<br \/>\n<\/b>I would say it\u2019s a split between Burgundy and Alsace. These two regions are two of my favorite regions in the world, not only for how beautiful they are but the style of wines and the class of wines they produce.<\/p>\n<p><b>What is your favorite beer to drink during harvest?<br \/>\n<\/b>Anything that is cold and wet.
