{"id":1004,"date":"2018-03-07T01:26:10","date_gmt":"2018-03-07T01:26:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.claibornechurchill.com\/blog\/?p=1004"},"modified":"2018-03-07T01:26:10","modified_gmt":"2018-03-07T01:26:10","slug":"encompassing-the-charm-of-alsace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.claibornechurchill.com\/blog\/encompassing-the-charm-of-alsace\/","title":{"rendered":"Encompassing the Charm of Alsace"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>A Brief History of Alsace Wines<\/h3>\n<p>Part of what makes Claiborne and Churchill so unique and special is our production of Alsatian white wines. \u00a0These wines \u00a0are virtually unheard of among novice wine enthusiasts.\u00a0 Alsatian wines originate from the region of Alsace in France, producing delicious, high quality wines, dryer in contrast to their neighbors in Germany. \u00a0The German-influenced wines are often sweeter, but produced from the same grape varietals.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.claibornechurchill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/alsacefrance.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1005\" src=\"https:\/\/www.claibornechurchill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/alsacefrance-238x300.png\" alt=\"Map of Alsace Region of France\" width=\"238\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.claibornechurchill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/alsacefrance-238x300.png 238w, https:\/\/www.claibornechurchill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/alsacefrance.png 609w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 238px) 100vw, 238px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Wines such as Rieslings and Gew\u00fcrztraminers are today generally misconceived as being \u201ctoo sweet\u201d in the United States. \u00a0This is mostly due to a sweeter style with higher residual sugar evident in these wines in the 90\u2019s.\u00a0 Many producers who work organically didn\u2019t want to pick grapes before they reached total ripeness and didn\u2019t want to add store-bought yeast to complete fermentation that indigenous yeast couldn\u2019t. \u00a0This resulted in the wines retaining more sugar post fermentation. \u00a0Due to the popularity with consumers and some wine critics preferring the sweeter wines and rewarding them with high scores, winemakers were discouraged from changing their methods until more recently.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Vintners began to adjust their viticultural methods to define ripeness with lower sugar content in the grapes.\u00a0 Winemakers have worked to achieve beautiful acidity and vibrancy rather than letting the sugars take over and being stuck with a syrupy product.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.claibornechurchill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/gewurzgrapes.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1007\" src=\"https:\/\/www.claibornechurchill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/gewurzgrapes.jpg\" alt=\"Gew\u00fcrztraminer Grapes on the Vine\" width=\"575\" height=\"378\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.claibornechurchill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/gewurzgrapes.jpg 890w, https:\/\/www.claibornechurchill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/gewurzgrapes-300x197.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.claibornechurchill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/gewurzgrapes-768x505.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 575px) 100vw, 575px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Embracing Tradition<\/h3>\n<p>Our take on Alsatian wines pays homage to how they were traditionally produced and enjoyed.
