This is a bold and forward Syrah. Deep and dark and
meaty, it’s a blend of Syrah grapes from two different microclimates, one cool and one hot. This
might account for its lively spice, its lush fruit, and its jammy, chewy, mouth-filling flavors. Try it
with bold dishes, like barbecued spareribs, or a spicy Creole Jambalaya.
It wasn’t long ago that Syrah was a relatively obscure grape, known as “Shiraz” in Australia, and
often confused here with Petite Sirah (a completely different grape). Then all of a sudden it became the
rage, everybody and his brother made a Syrah, and as usual there were a number of mediocre ones out
there (and some high-alcohol, tannic monsters as well), and the bloom was off the rose, as it were.
We’ve been making Syrahs since 1998. While our primary red wine will always be Pinot Noir, we
think Syrah fills a real niche in our portfolio. And it certainly has a nice following, to judge from the
rapidity with which it sells out! |
