Let’s begin with the wine: this “Rhone” blend is the product of the Blending Seminar we held last
summer, where teams of enthusiastic C&C oenophiles, working with barrel samples of three red
wines, competed to come up with the best concoction. After a blind tasting, the participants voted this
blend as their favorite.
Kudos to the winning blenders! Like the finest Côtes du Rhone, this beautiful garnet wine shows
lovely black-raspberry aromatics and clean, bright flavors. At the same time, it has a kindly, comfortable
essence that makes it thoroughly drinkable, even in its youth. I would think it would be perfect
with a Roast Leg of Lamb or a Pot au Feu, or just a simple sausage-and-warm-potato-salad bistro dish
(like breakfast in Lyon!).
Now: The label. And the name.
Those of you who have not succumbed to that malady known as Crossword Puzzle Addiction will
perhaps turn a cold shoulder to the “puzzling” wine label. On the other hand, I suspect there will be
many of you who might accept the challenge of solving the puzzle. If you do, you will learn more
about the wine that’s inside, and if you are among the first ten who send in a correct solution, you
might just win a prize!
But you will need the clues, because the bottle is “clueless,” and so are you! Clues to be posted on February 8, 2010. Good luck! |
