Fans of our Chardonnay (and we know you’re out there!) may notice a definite shift of focus in this vintage, as compared to previous versions. For starters, the appellation reads “Central Coast” instead of “Edna Valley,” since a severely limited Chardonnay harvest in our valley in 2008 prompted us to source some of the fruit from our neighbors in Santa Barbara County. We then elected to tank-ferment this fruit before barreling, in order to accentuate the special character of these grapes.
The result is Chardonnay with a noticeably lighter touch. The perfumes are, I am tempted to say, “ethereal,” and the oak is beautifully integrated and subtle. Think more “French Chablis” than “California Oak-Bomb.” Think “Yummy.” |
