2017 Syrah, Wolff Vineyards

While Pinot Noir reigns supreme as the most widely-planted red wine grape of the Edna Valley, Rhône varieties such as Syrah also grow well. The Syrah we source from our friends at Wolff Vineyards is a case in point. The cool climate here gives Syrah a complex, layered quality that we find quite intriguing. A dark red hue introduces this friendly and exuberant young wine. Aromas of ripe plum and tobacco with a hint of dried hay play against an overall confectionary tone. The palate is consistent with the aromas in its plushness and accessibility. While it is undoubtedly youthful, this Syrah is ready to enjoy with meats and other hearty foods. It would also pay to stock up on this wine before it’s gone and lay some down for five to seven years. We promise it would be worth the wait!
