2016 Grenache, Spanish Springs Vineyard

Our 2016 Grenache serves as a wonderful contrast to our Twin Creeks Pinot Noir. We source these “Rhone” grapes from Spanish Springs Vineyard, a relatively new site just this side of the Pacific Ocean at Pismo Beach. As such, it is among the coolest in our area, allowing the grapes to ripen with high sugars without compromising its acid structure. After the success of last year’s inaugural release of this Grenache, we were thrilled to have its successor resting in barrel for extended aging. As you swirl it in the glass, you find delightfully festive aromas of wild berries, blackberry chutney and black olives. On the palate, flavors of tart cherry, dark plum, and tamarind are supported by rich textures, grippy tannins, and balancing acidity. The “heft” of this Grenache augurs well for a long life, so you might want to pick up a few extra bottles to lay down and enjoy over the next several years. We also suggest decanting it for a couple of hours before serving it with a hearty dish such as Leg of Lamb, Grilled Ribeye, or
Wood-Fired Pizza.
