2016 Syrah/Grenache, Spanish Springs Vineyard

Now here is something new! As a complement to our various “Burgundian” Pinot Noirs, this is a blend of two “Rhone” grapes. Syrah and Grenache have been a part of our lineup of wines for a number of years, but this is the first time we’ve offered a blend of the two. Both the Syrah and the Grenache are sourced from a relatively new vineyard just west of us, very near the Pacific Ocean and the town of Pismo Beach. There the coastal climate and the sandy soil contribute to the remarkable fruit we’re happy delighted to work with.

With its deep garnet hue and dark fruity, “grapey” aromas, this blend offers a nice contrast to our Pinot Noirs. The flavors are mouth-filling, rich and reminiscent of dark fruit, black olives and tart bing cherries. There is a nice bit of tannin to augur a long aging potential. Try this wine with a full-flavored, hearty leg of lamb or a gamey wild duck.
