2005 Pinot Noir 'Twin Creeks Vineyard'
|
The Twin Creeks Vineyard is located on the western side of the Edna Valley AVA, less than a mile from Claiborne & Churchill. This vineyard is a unique collaboration between 3 homeowners who planted the open space on their properties to wine grapes, (2.5 - 3.5 acres per block; 3 clones of Pinot Noir on 2 rootstock selections.) They farm and market the resultant crop cooperatively, with all fruit exclusively under contract to our winery. This Vineyard has astounded us from the beginning. Incredibly dark in color for a Pinot Noir, and full of tannin (to the point of astringency early in its life) by bottling the tannins had softened perceptibly to balance nicely with the intense black fruit and spice character of the wine, creating a rich, harmonious mouth feel. As it has continued to age in the bottle, this youthful exuberance is showing signs of increased elegance. It seems that each time we open a bottle, we are met with further aromatic development and increased complexity on the palate. Pinot Noir is always a fascinating wine, due to the way it can change over the course of a meal, revealing different facets of itself from the first sip to the last. This wine is no exception, and if you plan to drink it young, it may even benefit from the slight aeration of decanting 30 minutes before serving. We urge you to cellar several bottles, to sample as it develops further over the next 5-8 years. (That's what we plan to do!) Enjoy, and raise a glass in toast to even greater success in the continued partnership with our neighbors at Twin Creeks! 2005 Twin Creeks Tasting Notes: Rich aromas of smoke and cola, good mouth feel and tannins.
